GS in memorial Cup success

Livingston FC Supporters side FC Livingston GS claimed their first bit of silverware this season as they defeated Athletico Dunfermline for the Mary Leishman Memorial Trophy.

After the disappointment of crashing out of the IFA British Cup to Preston last week, GS were keen to get off to a good start - and that they did. With little over 10 minutes on the clock, Tom Cheeseman curled a free-kick into the box where Dave Black rose highest to head beyond the Dunfermline 'keeper. It wasn't long before the Livi side were celebrating again. Black got on the end of another Cheeseman cross and as the ball looked to be sailing in, a Dunfermline defender on the line used his hand to block the effort. A penalty was duly awarded and Mark McGinty stepped up to send the 'keeper the wrong way and double the advantaged heading into half-time.

Dunfermline came flying out the traps in the second-half and two, quick goals from Jamie Fieldsend & Paul Connolly saw the Fife side draw level. However, despite this set-back, GS battled back into the game and after some fine work down the right wing, Paul Miller broke free of his man and sent a brilliant strike into the top corner to regain the lead.

Some backs to the wall defending followed but GS held out for the win and picked up the trophy. Jim Leishman was in attendance and presented GS with the trophy as well as a MotM award which was collected by GS captain Dave Black. The teams, playing in memory of Jim's late wife Mary, managed to raise £210 for the Mary Leishman Foundation.

GS aren't in action this weekend but will return on Saturday 17th March on league duty when they play host to Dunfermline ASFC.
