Ross County 1-4 Livingston
Irn-Bru First Division, Victoria Park, Saturday 13 December 2008

GOALS from Murray Davidson, Calum Elliot, Leigh Griffiths and Rocco Quinn sealed a first win for new manager Paul Hegarty as Livingston returned to winning ways with a thumping 4-1 win away to Ross County.

There were several well known faces in County's line-up which gave the feel of an old Livi reunion, but as the game began it was clear County were in no mood to do Livi any favours.

A combination of poor finishing and sloppy defending saw the home side dominate the first quarter, with Livi's only real chance being a Griffiths break which was well stopped by Bullock in goal.

But against the run of play Livi took the lead on 34 minutes when a goalmouth scramble ended with Murray Davidson deftly sliding the ball under the keeper and into the back of the net.

Livi then survived a scare when County were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area which could easily have been a penalty, but fortunately for the visitors it came to nothing and from the resulting break McParland forced Bullock into a fine diving save.

County maintained the pressure however, and ex-Lion Steven Craig almost equalised when he fired over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

But this was only a short reprieve, as with the half drawing to an end County were awarded a free kick, and from the resulting cut-back former Livi man Mark McCulloch blasted home a deserved equaliser.

Livi could easily have been demoralised by that late strike, but showed no sign of it as the second half kicked off.

And as if to prove the point, Leigh Griffiths took control, sprinting up the left flank before cutting a fine cross in which Calum Elliot delivered high into the County net to restore Livi's lead.

The game duly turned after this, with Livi showing some fine touches and leaving County flapping for possession.

With 78 minutes gone Leigh Griffiths capped his return by cheekily accepting the gift of a defensive mix-up to tap home into an empty goal and give the visitors a comfortable 2 goal cushion. The County players called in vain for offside, but Sparky was already celebrating.

And on what was otherwise a wet and miserable afternoon, Rocco Quinn finally broke his Livi duck by smashing home a stunning 25 yard injury time strike, sending the delighted travelling support home with 4-1 bragging rights, and the team with three valuable points.
