Robbo 'over the moon' with Livi performance

LIVINGSTON head of youth development Graeme Robertson was 'over the moon' at last night's win over Dunfermline Athletic, praising the young players he has helped develop into first team regulars.

Now also in a role contributing to manager Paul Hegarty's team selection and coaching of the first team, Robertson was asked to speak to the press after the 4-2 win over the Pars by Hegarty in his place, because of his contribution to the result.

And he was understandably elated at a much needed win for the Lions, in which six of his protégés featured.

"I'm over the moon to see our youth development flourishing and with the three points," said Robertson, "Andrew Halliday is only 17; Cameron MacDonald, Keaghan Jacobs, Leigh Griffiths, Mark Torrance and Murray Davidson are all in there and there are others to come.

"It's great to see and it shows the youth policy is working.

"The manager has been asking for my opinion on the boys we have in the team and where we could fit them in. With a few players out just now injured, we've had to put players in unfamiliar positions, but everyone has done brilliantly.

"Paul Hegarty is obviously making the final decisions on everything, but I am getting the opportunity to throw my opinions in there. Having worked with all the young boys coming through to the first team just now, that obviously is a big help.

"The youngsters proved their versatility and desire to just do well for the team. Keaghan Jacobs had to come on at right back for a while, then we pushed him further forward later on and he's set up Leigh Griffiths for a goal with a fantastic pass.

"Then Mark Torrance, who is a midfield player, has came in and slotted into that right back role and done superbly.

"Sometimes at the moment a lot of our decisions come down to hope. We are trying things out like playing Keaghan at right back to see if it will work out.

"But what we see is what we've got here at the club. And that is an honest bunch of players who will work their tails off."

Robertson was also full of honest praise for the club's supporters for their role in the progress of so many talented youngsters into the team, commending their patience and support for the boys.

"A big factor in their continued development is the club's supporters. They get behind the team and realise how much hard work we are putting in.

" If you look at the games where we have suffered defeats, like at St Johnstone or at home to Partick, we've played well but inexperience has cost us

."So we were delighted to get the result to stop a poor run of form and now the boys have something to build upon. We've jumped up to 3rd in the league now and it shows how tight the league is. Everybody can beat everybody."
