Under 19s take Dons' Youth Cup scalp

Brian Welsh's Under 19 side are in the SFA Youth Cup semi finals for the second year running after they defeated a strong Aberdeen side by four goals to two in the quarter finals this afternoon.

Our youngsters turned in a terrific performance from the word go and were deserved winners against their SPL opponents.

In very wet and windy conditions at Balgownie Playing Fields, Marc McNulty got the game off to the perfect start with a goal inside three minutes.

By midway through the first half, the lead was doubled when Ross Gray was pulled down inside the box.  Showing great composure Lewis Turner converted the penalty.

Sitting in the top half of the SPL Under 19 League, Aberdeen pulled a goal back before half time when Jospeh Shaughnessy produced a knockdown for Mitchel Megginson to tap in.

Leading 2-1 at the break, our youngsters redoubled their efforts and put the tie beyond doubt before the hour mark.

Goalscorer supreme Marc McNulty scored our third goal in the 50th minute, followed up ten minutes later by Dean Cummings.

Although the heavy conditions took their toll, we kept going to the very end, eventually seeing the game out by a two goal margin after Scottish youth internationalist Jack Grimmer pulled a late goal back for the home side.

Watching on, first team manager Gary Bollan paid tribute to a fine performance.

"Our lads did very well and I thought fully deserved their victory on the day," he said.

"Everyone played their part in the win and did the whole club proud.  Aberdeen made it difficult at times as you might expect, but the better side won on the day."

We now go into the hat for the last four with Celtic, Rangers and Hibernian, who we beat on route to the semi finals last year.
