Hugh Cowan 1940-2011

The club were saddened to hear of the death of Hugh Cowan yesterday at the age of 70.

Hugh's association with the club extended back to the early 1960s when he was employed as a mechanical design engineer with Ferranti Ltd and was a member of the Ferranti Thistle side which captured it's first senior trophy, the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup, in 1963.

Hugh later emigrated to America, but returned to Scotland and renewed his association with the club when he became a member of the club's committee when Ferranti became Meadowbank Thistle and joined the Scottish Football League in 1974.

He served the club until 1979 when work took him back Stateside again, and on his return he became associated with East of Scotland League side Craigroyston.

Keen to return to the fold at Meadowbank, he was invited back onto the board by Bill Hunter in 1993 and was held the post of vice-chairman at the time of the move to Livingston two years later.

Although he stepped down from the club board in 1998, Hugh remained a keen Livingston supporter and was an invited guest at the recent league game against East Fife.

The condolences of everyone at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium are extended to Hugh's wife Jenny, and his family and friends.
