This weekend marks Remembrance Sunday, a focal point across Scotland and the UK for recognising and commemorating the contribution of service personnel in the two World Wars and more recent conflicts.
To show its support for the service community, Livingston FC - in association with the Livi for Life Supporters Trust - have commissioned a set of commemorative shirts which will be worn in Saturday's First Division match against Hamilton Academical.
The eleven Livingston starting players for the match will all have a poppy motif embroidered onto the front of their shirts, making each of the eleven numbered shirts completely unique.
These shirts will be worn in Saturday's match only and are being auctioned off to the highest bidder, with profits being donated to poppyscotland's 2011 Scottish Poppy Appeal.
Additionally, each shirt will be hand-signed by the player who wore it during the match.
poppyscotland is the leading charity supporting ex-Servicemen and women and their families in Scotland.
Best known for running the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal each year, they work all year round to help veterans and their families receive the care and support they urgently need.
Thanks to the Scottish Poppy Appeal and their other fundraising activities, poppyscotland is able to provide financial assistance to thousands of ex-Servicemen and women as well as helping to fund specialist services such as long term care, housing and employment.
“Livingston FC and the Livi for Life Supporters Trust are proud to be lending our support to poppyscotland's appeal this year,” said David Stoker, who represents the Trust on Livingston FC's board of directors.
“poppyscotland do a tremendous amount of great work for servicemen and women in need today, as well as raising awareness of the huge sacrifices made by many in the past.
“By wearing and auctioning off commemorative shirts on Saturday, we hope to raise some much needed money to help them continue that work.
“I'd urge supporters to help us to help poppyscotland by bidding for one of the eleven special shirts.
“By doing so, they'll be giving themselves a chance to get their hands on a truly unique piece of memorabilia, whilst having the satisfaction of helping out a great cause along the way.”
