While our first team will be enjoying a rare Saturday off this weekend, it’ll be business as usual for our supporters’ side – albeit business will be starting a bit earlier than the usual Saturday.
FC Livingston GS take their place in the 1st round of the IFA British Cup with an away tie to Stockport County supporters side AeF FC. However, with the game scheduled for an 11am kick-off at the home ground of Cheadle Town FC, the boys will be leaving from the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium at 5am.
Despite the long distance trek just before the game, GS player-manager Tom Cheeseman isn’t worried about his players suffering from tiredness from the travelling. He said “It’ll not be the first-time we’ve made this sort of trip. A season back we drew Manchester United away in this cup and went down there in similar fashion and won the game 4-1. The boys will be buzzing to get to the ground and get on with the game so I’m confident we’ll cope well.”
GS go into this game undefeated so far this season and currently sit joint top of the IFA Scottish League. A 6-2 win against Troon IFC a fortnight back also ensured passage to the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup, so confidence is high in the camp. Goals from Daniel Carr-Pollock, Paul Miller and Dave Black sealed a comfortable 3-0 win against Motherwell last weekend and meant the team have now gone six games without loss.
Black’s goal in that game was his ninth of the season already and the club captain is eager to add to that against Stockport. “I’m lucky enough to have players around me constantly creating chances and more often than not, I’m left with the easy task of rolling the ball into the net – hopefully that’ll continue this weekend and I can help put us through to the next round” he said.
GS knocked out local rivals Dunfermline on penalties at this stage last season before losing out to Preston in the 2nd round. If our boys can pick up the win on Saturday, they’ll be playing host to either AFC Wimbledon or Dagenham and Redbridge in the next round.
Unfortunately injury and work commitments rule out a number of players for the weekend but GS do welcome back Chris Love, Graham Yorke, Richard Harrison, Callum McKinven and Darren Keith who all missed out on the weekends win against Motherwell.
You’ll be able to keep up-to-date with how the boys get on on both Facebook and Twitter with a match report to follow on here after the game.
