Under 19's on verge of league victory

LIVINGSTON's under 19's side sit on the verge of a second consecutive Irn-Bru U19 league title as they prepare to take on Partick Thistle tomorrow morning on the fieldturf.

With three games left to play, Graeme Robertson and Paul Connolly's team need just one point to ensure the trophy remains at the 'Vale.

The young Lions have had a sensational season, racking up 81 goals in 15 league fixtures, whilst only conceding 14. Of their 15 fixtures, they have won 14, losing only once to Queens Park back in September.s

And whilst continued success in competitive fixtures is a boost to the club's morale in general, the true barometer of achievement is the progression of the players at U19 level to the Livingston first team squad.

Of those pictured above, Murray Davidson and Leigh Griffiths have enjoyed the most success, with both becoming first team regulars this season.

Gordon Smith has also been a regular fixture in the squad of 16 on matchdays, whilst also finding the time to put the ball in the net 14 times for the U19's this season.

David Sinclair, Mark Torrance, Sean Kerr and Chris Malone have also broken into the first team over recent seasons and will be aiming to catch the eye of manager Paul Hegarty and play a part in the final third of the 2008/09 season.

Andrew Halliday meanwhile has recently made a number of substitute appearances for Livingston after a hugely impressive season playing on the left of midfield for the U19's. From this position, Halliday has bagged 24 goals in 17 appearances and is rightly now getting his opportunity to impress at the top level.

Sunday's fixture with Partick Thistle kicks off at 11am and all Livi fans are encouraged to make the journey down to cheer on a possible success.

Although nobody is taking victory for granted, with Thistle guaranteed to provide a stern test, it's a great opportunity for Livingston supporters to cheer a great success and to see the next promising crop of youngsters coming through the ranks.
