Livingston WFC secured a dramatic three points thanks to a long range strike from Beth McKay in injury time. Lauren Evans came off the bench to level things up with five minutes to go before McKay’s magic meant Livingston saw off Glasgow Women 2-1.
Four changes were made from last weekends defeat to Kilmarnock, with Shenai Gamrot, Shannon Todd, Brogan Anderson and Anna Dickov coming in for Molly Reeve, Fiona Walker, Sharon Hughes-Lee and Lucy Watt.
Livi were looking dangerous early on, with Beth McKay’s set piece deliveries causing Glasgow problems but the away side could not take the lead. Anna Dickov thought she had opened the scoring but her looping effort was flagged for offside.
Despite Livi’s pressure, it was Glasgow who took the lead through Kayleigh Barghati. A deep free kick from their own half ended up at the feet of Barghati who made no mistake from close range.
Livi looked to bounce back, with Beth McKay continuing to threaten in a strong performance. A great chance popped up as she dodged three players before whipping in an excellent cross, which was just missed by Sharon Hughes-Lee.
A difficult bounce in the box allowed Jess Murphy to beat the Glasgow goalkeeper Khym Ramsay with a header but the effort was heroically cleared off the line.
The pressure from the away side paid off as substitute Lauren Evans levelled things up. Some patient play from Livi saw Sharon Hughes-Lee’s cross met by the new signing whose header could not be stopped by Ramsay.
Further joy came in injury time, with Livingston getting a well deserved winner. A Player of the Match performance from Beth McKay was topped off by a wonder strike. The winger picked up a clearance from Ramsay before striking from 40 yards, with the effort evading both Ramsay and a Glasgow defender and hitting the back of the net, sending the away side into jubilation.
A tough challenge against the former SWPL 1 side but great perseverance sees Livi come away with their first three points of the season.
