Boroughmuir Thistle 2-0 Livingston WFC
Livingston’s ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 campaign ended in a 2-0 defeat to Boroughmuir Thistle at a sunny Meadowbank stadium.
The deadlock was broken within minutes as Thistle’s Amy Forbes found a way past Chloe Gibney from close range after the Livingston keeper produced an impressive double save in a crowded 6-yard box.
Livingston would ramp up the pressure with some sustained offense in the first half. Megan Whiteford was unable to convert on two occasions after some impressive link-up with striker Dionne Brown. A stretched Boroughmuir Defense were forced into committing a couple of heavy challenges late on in the half, resulting in bookings for Imogen Lang and Amy Forbes.
It was a committed Boroughmuir Thistle who came out for the second half, as Livingston made changes but struggled to maintain the intensity they showed in the first half. A loose Jess Murphy back pass was latched onto by Thistle’s Emily Reid, who rounded Chloe Gibney to make it 2-0 despite the defender’s best efforts to recover.
Forward Justine Strain proved a constant nuisance to the Thistle defence, nearly setting up Seren McCulloch and Aimee Murray but neither could convert to cut the deficit.
The hosts went on to hold their line and shut out the Lionesses, seeing to a 2-0 win to begin their season.
