Cup Final match preview
This Sunday is a significant occasion as we face Queen’s Park in the SPFL Trust Trophy Final at the Falkirk Stadium.
Both teams approach this match from different perspectives: we come off a 1-0 victory over league leaders Falkirk, while our opponents are reeling from a defeat against Greenock Morton. We will be aiming to win this cup, ten years after our triumph over Alloa Athletic in 2015. This final promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams eager to add a trophy to their cabinet.
After a crucial home win that boosts our promotion hopes, we are looking to carry that momentum into the final. Although we’ve had mixed results lately, with only two wins in our last five games, we are determined to regain our winning ways and claim the trophy. We’ve scored five goals in those five matches but have managed to keep only two clean sheets.
Meanwhile, Queens Park, come into this match having lost all five of their recent games, including an away defeat to Greenock Morton. Despite their poor run of form, they managed to create an upset in their recent Scottish Cup against Rangers and will undoubtedly be motivated.
They have scored four goals during that stretch but have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches. We are yet to beat Queen’s Park this season so tomorrow would be the perfect occasion to turn that form around.
One of the key players to watch in this match will be Stephen Kelly, who continues to improve with each game. After a Player of the Match performance last time out, he will be looking to replicate that success in the final. Another crucial player is Andrew Shinnie, who came off the bench to score the winner against Falkirk. His presence and attacking abilities will be vital in finding gaps in the opponents’ defence.
In our last five meetings with Queens Park, we have had the upper hand, winning twice and drawing twice. However, our last encounter in January ended in a 2-0 defeat away from home, so we are eager to secure a win this time and bring the trophy back to West Lothian.
