Dundee Utd match preview
This weekend, we are back on the road as we face Dundee United at Tannadice, for the last game before the split. Both teams are coming into this game from different perspectives. We are coming off a 2-2 draw, and the hosts are coming off a 4-2 loss. We look to build on the previous performance and head into the split with positive momentum.
We are coming off a 2-2 draw against Hearts. We shocked the visitors as we scored early in the 5th minute, thanks to a great strike from May, giving us the advantage against a team that needed to avoid defeat to go back on top. However, on the 24th minute, the visitors equalised through a cross by Leonard and Shankland headed home. The visitors took the lead early in the second half through a close-range header by Braga. With the weather constantly changing we didn’t know what to expect next. Hearts only had the lead for a handful of minutes after Cristian Montano’s cross across the goal found Lewis smith at the back post to fire into the net. Then, during the injury, the visitors were reduced to 10 men as Leonard denied Muirhead, who was going through on goal. Both teams shared the spoils as Hearts’ dominance couldn’t break through leaving them just 1 point clear at the top.
Dundee United is coming off a 4-2 win against Rangers. The hosts started well through some early dominance, but the first goal didn’t come until the 30th minute as Naderi scored from close range from a corner. The 2nd by Rangers came just 5 minutes later as Olsen’s ball found Sterling and he headed it home. Dundee Utd did pull one back just shortly before half time following a fast break as Fatah slotted it in. However, just shortly into the second half Rangers scored their 3rd through a through ball from Gassama then Aasgaard from close range tapped it in. Despite not creating a lot in the match, Dundee Utd grabbed their second through Sapsford. Rangers killed the game off through Miovski from outside the box and secured all 3 points, with United’s top 6 chance shattered. Our hosts have won 2 in their last 5 games, they have scored 9 in their last 5 matches and have conceded 9. The hosts are also looking to have a positive momentum going into the split so they can finish as high in the league table as possible.
The key players for this match will be Robbie Muirhead, who won the POTM award for March. He will be important against a well-organised side in getting in behind and creating key chances this weekend. Another key player for this match will be Lewis Smith, who grabbed a goal last time out and was once again impressive, putting in another great performance. His awareness and his midfield runs will catch out the United defence and hoping to add to his goal tally.
In the last 5 matches between the sides, it’s the hosts who have the upper hand, winning 2 of the 5 matches, with 1 draw and 1 win for us. The last game was a 3-1 loss back in December 2025. Our last win against our opponents was a 2-1 win back in May 2023 at home. So, we will be looking to repeat that over our hosts, grab a positive result.
