Livingston WFC 1-1 Queen’s Park WFC
The Lionesses returned from the break to earn a draw at home with visiting Queen’s Park.
The away side had the ball in the back of the net within five minutes of the whistle, but had their early goal chalked off for offside. A few big chances followed for the Glasgow side, but a new-look Livingston defence held their ground with Gibney getting a glove to a point-blank Callaghan header from the edge of the 6-yard box.
It was Livingston who would open the scoring with their first big chance of the afternoon. Jaya Gill drove down the left into the Queen’s box before she was dispossessed; Justine Strain snatched on the loose ball and rifled two shots at goal – the latter of the two beating McPhie at her near post to put the Lionesses ahead.
Queen’s Park would find their equaliser quickly as substitute Summer Thomson found the net after Livingston were caught in possession playing from the back. The Spiders would look to nudge ahead right before half-time, but a driven free kick from range destined for the roof of the net was again tipped over the bar by Chloe Gibney to keep the game level.
Both teams would be afforded chances on goal in the second half, with neither side able to find a way through, thanks in part to some solid defending from centre-half pairing Donald and Macara. The big opportunity presented itself with fifteen minutes to play, when Justine Strain raced away from her marker barrelling towards goal with Wands clear on her right shoulder; the striker’s effort on goal was hit at McPhie in the Queen’s Park goal. With a late corner bearing no fruit for Livi, the game ended all square.
Plenty of positives to build on as Livingston host Stirling University in league action at home next week.
