Livingston WFC 1-2 Gartcairn WFC
Livingston were edged by Gartcairn in a tight affair at the Home of the Set Fare Arena.
Both teams struggled to get a good hold of the ball from the start, with the home side afforded the better early chances through Leah Daly and Megan Whiteford.
Livingston would catch Gartcairn sleeping with a swift move out from the back to break the deadlock. Jaya Gill and Vivienne Strain connected down the left flank before Justine Strain was sent through on goal racing away from her marker, producing a cool finish one on one with Inman.
Gartcairn would immediately push for an equaliser in the first half, piling the pressure on a Livingston defence that were keen to defend the 18-yard box, but Timlin was unable to convert when the big chance finally did fall to the visitors.
Sophie Timlin would be afforded more chances on goal early in the second half, and was able to head in a lofted free kick from the left flank to equalise for Gartcairn.
Defender Jess Murphy would make the referee’s book for a challenge minutes before Timlin put the away side ahead, rolling past Maguire’s shoulder and slotting into the top left corner.
Gibney and Maguire would both take on heavy challenges late on, with the latter forcing Craig Joyce into a 6th substitution after receiving a head injury assessment after a rash challenge.
Livingston would push for an equaliser, and were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes left after Whiteford was downed in the box collecting a spilled ball from a corner. Whiteford would step up to take the spot kick, but Inman pulled out a diving save to deny the Livingston captain an equaliser.
A bruised Livingston side look to Kilmarnock next week.
