Squad Update | Babacar Fati joins the Lions

We’re thrilled to tonight announce the signing of Guinea-Bissau international Babacar Fati from SJK Seinäjoki for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance and SFA approval.
The left-back has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal here at the Home of the Set Fare Arena and will wear the number 3 shirt.
Born in Portugal, Fati started his career with Portuguese giants Sporting CP, rising through the clubs ranks, making two appearances for the B team before making the switch to Finland.
He started with SJK Seinäjoki’s second string making 18 appearances, scoring five goals and making three assists, earning the 25-year-old promotion to the first team.
Spending three full seasons with the Kerho, he made 85 appearances, scoring 6 times, and assisting 16 times, whilst also making two appearances in European competition too.
Men’s first-team manager David Martindale said: “The club are heading in a new direction and this is all down to the new ownership at the club and a very progressive board looking to change how we have operated in transfer windows previously.
“The recruitment model and recruitment team have been instrumental this window and the Chairman has shown tremendous support towards that which ultimately benefits the football department.
“We want to and need to look at selling our players opposed to losing them for nothing when their contracts expire. There have been too many players over the years moving on without the club gaining any value from it.
“Babacar coming in for a 6 figure investment and on a long-term contract is definitely bringing value and creating an asset within the club and that can only bode well for the future.
“The January window has so far brought three players on permanent transfers and one on loan, and this is all down to the hard work of the recruitment team and the support of the Chairman and the board.
“Babacar brings in real competition in the left back area and it was definitely needed with the news we got on Adam Montgomery’s injury relapse early last week.
“We are in a new era for Livingston and I have said this on numerous occasions this season but Livingston FC is changing and the club will only keep progressing with the continued support of the Chairman and the board.”
Welcome to the club, Babacar!
