St Mirren match preview

This weekend, we turn our focus to Scottish Cup action as we face St Mirren at the Home of the Set Arena in the Fourth Round. Both teams are coming into this game from different perspectives. We are coming off a 1-1 draw, and the visitors are coming from a 2-0 loss. We look to take a positive performance from last weekend’s league game into Scottish Cup form and into the hat for the next round.
We are coming off a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock. Just before half-time, McLennan gave us the lead with a tap-in from Tait’s ball from the left-hand side. Tete Yengi came close to doubling our lead by hitting the underside of the crossbar. Kilmarnock equalised through Dackers in the 70th minute. A claim for handball by Lyon was checked and cleared beyond the 90 minutes, which on replay looked a certain penalty. We have not won in the last 19 league matches and have scored 4 goals during that run and have conceded 10. We hope to get back to winning ways especially after a decent display at the weekend and grab the win to get into the next round of the cup.
St Mirren is coming off a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the league leaders Hearts. The hosts ended up being down to 10 men early on in the game in the 15th minute, which gave the Saints a chance. Despite St Mirren having the ball in the net twice, both goals were flagged for offside which meant Hearts managed to hold on until half time. Shankland made it 1-0 to Hearts in the 60th minute as his side-foot finish saw the 10 men take the lead. Then in the 80th minute, a header from Magnusson sealed the win for the league leaders, as St Mirren failed to punish the 10 men of Hearts. Our visitors have lost 4 in their last 5 league games. They have failed to score in their last 3 matches, only scoring 1 in their last 5 matches, and conceding 8. They will want to overturn their poor form, make it into the next round of the Scottish cup and try to seal a historic cup double.
The key players for this match will be Connor McLennan who grabbed another goal at the weekend and showed an impressive display and hopes to do so again as his runs from that right wing position will help us create chances against a struggling defence. Another key player for this match will be Sammy Lawal who was given Player of the Match at last weekend’s game, he limited Killies and was a force at the back. He will be key to limiting the visitors’ chances, by creating a solid backline as this will be important to getting into the next round.
In the last 5 matches between the sides, it’s the visitors who have the upper hand by winning 3 with 1 draw and 1 for us. The last game was a competitive 1-0 loss back in December 2025. Our last win against our opponents was a 1-0 win back in February 2024 at home. So, we will be looking to repeat that over our guests, grab a positive result, with a positive performance especially in front of our fans and get our name in the hat for the next round of the Scottish Cup.
