Miles Welch-Hayes joins the Lions!
It’s another new arrival for the Lions, with the club delighted to announce the signing of defender Miles Welch-Hayes.
The 26-year-old right-back joins from English League 2 side Harrogate Town, although spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on-loan at Altrincham.
Englishman Welch-Hayes signed his first professional contract with his home club Oxford United at 19, making his debut in 2016. A number of loan spells followed before joining Bath City on a permanent deal, earning a place in the Conference South team of the year after Bath narrowly missed out on qualifying for the play-offs.
In 2018, Miles returned to English League football with then newly-promoted Macclesfield Town, where he made over 50 appearances before leaving in the January 2020 when he joined Colchester United in League 2.
After another 50+ appearances with Colchester, Miles joined Harrogate Town at the start of last season, finishing the campaign on-loan at Altrincham.
Miles joins the club on a 3-year-deal and will wear the number 14 shirt for the 2023/24 campaign.
First-Team Manager David Martindale said: “Miles is another signing that I’m delighted to get over the line. He is going to come in and provide competition in defensive areas for us – he can play a few positions but is predominantly a right-back or right-wing-back.
“Miles has played alot of football at a good level which is hugely important in terms of adapting to the Scottish Premiership.
“He is a very good athlete and excellent in one-vs-one situations. I think there is a lot more to come from him and playing and training at this level will really help him kick on.
He’s a very good signing in terms of providing squad depth and competition and like I say, I do really believe he is a player that we can really progress in the coming months.”
Welcome to the club, Miles!
