2019/20 SPFL Reserve League 2 Champions!
As announced on both our own and the SPFL’s social media channels earlier this afternoon, our reserve team have today been crowned Champions of the SPFL Reserve League 2.
With the 2019/20 season brought to an end for senior teams, the decision was taken by the SPFL Board to also formally conclude the 2019/20 Reserve League and Reserve League 2 seasons, with final standings determined on a points per game basis.
We already occupied top spot, 3 points ahead of second placed Ayr United and when the points per game basis was considered, we remained top with 2.16 PPG versus that of Ayr United on 2.09 PPG.
It’s been a successful season for our reserve side, winning the league title, reaching the Reserve Cup final and also taking part in the Caramel Wafer Cup, bowing out to Highland league side Formartine United back in August.
The reserve league offers a terrific opportunity for our young players to gain experience of competitive football as well as first-team players returning from injury having a chance to build up match fitness as they get back to full speed.
A huge well done from all at the club to the coaching team of Derek McWilliams, Stevie Pittman, Marvin Bartley & Gary Maley who have all worked hard behind the scenes to guide the side to the title and of course, a big congratulations to all of the players who have contributed to the reserve team over the course of the campaign.
