Aberdeen 2-0 Livingston
It was an evening to forget for the Lions on Wednesday night as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Pittodrie.
The Dons controlled possession from the outset and throughout, creating the first chance of the game early on. Lewis Ferguson found Scott Brown on the edge of the box, but the skipper’s shot flew wide of the post.
On 23 minutes, Aberdeen took the lead as they broke up the park in numbers. Cristian Ramirez found Ryan Hedges on the right and the attacking midfielder drove at the heart of the Livingston defence before firing past Stryjek to give the hosts a well-deserved opener.
The Welshman was involved again as Aberdeen really should have made it 2-0 before half time. He linked up well with Ramirez as the pair played a one-two which allowed Hedges to drive into the box. The midfielder shifted the ball onto his left foot before applying a similar finish to the opener, but this time Max Stryjek was equal to it as he diverted the strike wide.
Jackson Longridge was shown a yellow card early into the second half for a poor tackle on Funso Ojo. Then, moments later, he was late on Ryan Hedges as Livingston pressed for an equaliser and was shown a second yellow card after the Aberdeen players swarmed round the referee in protest.
Livi now at a man’s disadvantage had a rare foray forward and created an opening after some good work from Andrew Shinnie. He found Bailey who cut inside but fired an effort wide of the target.
On 75 minutes, The Dons had their second as they killed the game and secured the three points. Jonny Hayes’ free kick was met by David Bates at the far post as the defender poked home in front of his man for his first goal in Aberdeen colours.
In the end, it was a thoroughly deserved victory for The Reds who dominated the match, but Livi will be disappointed that they didn’t lay a glove on Stephen Glass’ side who end a poor run of three defeats on the bounce.
