Adam Montgomery returns on season-long loan

We’re delighted to announce the signing of Adam Montgomery, with the defender returning to the club on a season-long loan from Premiership Champions, Celtic.
The 24-year-old returns to the Lions having previously spent the first half of the 2025/26 campaign at the Home of the Set Fare Arena, making eight appearances before his loan spell was cut short by injury.
Montgomery now returns to West Lothian looking to build on that experience and play a key role for Head Coach Glenn Whelan during the 2026/27 Championship campaign. Adam will wear the number 24 shirt for the season.
A versatile left-sided player, Adam began his career as a forward before being converted into a defender during his time within the Celtic Academy. He joined the Hoops’ youth setup in 2009 and signed his first professional contract in July 2019.
He made his Celtic first-team debut as an 18-year-old in May 2021, starting in a 4-0 Premiership victory over St Johnstone, and went on to make 20 first-team appearances for Celtic.
The former Scotland youth international has gained considerable senior experience through a number of loan spells, including with Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Fleetwood Town, Motherwell and Queen’s Park, before his first move to us in July 2025.
His spell at Queen’s Park during the 2024/25 season saw him feature regularly as the Spiders enjoyed a memorable Scottish Cup run, while he made 14 appearances and scored once across the campaign.
Adam’s first spell with the Lions began in July 2025, and he made an immediate impact, scoring on his competitive debut in a 6-0 Premier Sports Cup victory over Kelty Hearts.
After establishing himself in the starting XI during the opening weeks of the season, an injury ultimately brought his spell to an early conclusion, with Celtic agreeing to recall him in January 2026.
Now back to full fitness and with another season of Championship football ahead, we’re delighted Adam has chosen to return to Livingston. Our thanks to all at Celtic FC for their help in making this happen too.
Welcome back to West Lothian, Adam!
