Alloa U20 2-4 Livingston U20
Livingston made it two wins in a row in tonight’s Development League East encounter when they saw off 2nd place Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium to leapfrog into top spot.
Things started brightly enough with the Lions having several close calls, but they suffered a blow after only 15 minutes when Kyle Sampson limped off to be replaced by Dale Carrick. And the sub almost made an immediate impact, but his headed effort from a Knox corner flashed narrowly wide of the post.
It was all Livi at this point, however the Wasps managed to break upfield to win a corner, and from the resulting cross John Cunningham stabbed the hosts in front.
This lead was short lived though as 2 minutes later Matthew Knox picked up a cross, jinked inside then unleashed an unstoppable low drive into the net to restore parity.
Alloa’s Kierin Allison was then taken off on a stretcher as the injuries continued to mount, and naturally we wish him well and hope it’s nothing too serious.
The second half began with Alloa very much on the back foot as Livi continued to dominate proceedings. A goal was coming though after a few near things, and it duly fell to Matthew Knox to do the honours with another low drive into the corner.
Four minutes later it was 3-1 when Ryan Currie and Dale Carrick combined with an exquisite 1-2 move to set up Currie who slammed the ball past Smith to extend Livi’s lead.
Currie came close again shortly afterwards, but the next goal came from Jack Ogilvie whose powerful drive went clean through red-faced keeper Smith’s legs .
Alloa hit back with 12 minutes remaining when they were awarded a penalty, and Scott Hynd made no mistake from the spot. But time was Alloa’s enemy as Livi held on comfortably to see out time and bag all 3 points.
