Ben Williamson joins the Lions on loan
Livingston FC is delighted to announce the loan signing of Scotland U21 midfielder Ben Williamson on a season-long-loan from Premiership champions Rangers.
The 19-year-old spent the second-half of last season on-loan at Arbroath, alongside Jack Hamilton and Carlo Pignatiello, and helped the Red Lichties to survival in the Championship, featuring 18 times.
His form there was so impressive that he was called up to the Scotland U21 side in June, making his debut in a friendly win over Northern Ireland, where he also grabbed himself a goal.
The youngster has been with Rangers for 12 years, ending last season training with the first-team after winning the Young Player of the Year award at Arbroath too.
On joining Arbroath in January, Ben had signed a contract extension with Rangers, seeing him remain with the club until 2022 however, Steven Gerrard has rewarded his progress whilst at Arbroath with a further extension today, which will see him remain with the Govan club until 2023.
Ben will be available for Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup group clash with Alloa Athletic and will wear the number 12 shirt for the season ahead.
Manager David Martindale said: “I’m delighted that both Ben himself and Rangers FC have chosen Livingston as the club best placed to help Ben in his progression.
“I watched Ben action a number of times last season whilst watching Jack Hamilton and Carlo Pignatiello at Arbroath and was always impressed. I really believe he has a great future in the game and I’m happy to get him on board here.
“Ben hasn’t long made his Scotland U21 debut which tells you the quality the lad possesses.
I must say a big thank you to Rangers Football Club, Ben and his agent Pete Cormack for working with us to make the deal happen.”
Welcome to Livingston, Ben!
