Boroughmuir Thistle WFC 1-1 Livingston WFC
An Ashley Elizabeth equaliser earned Livingston a point in the capital as we held Boroughmuir Thistle to a 1-1 draw at the Meadowbank Stadium. The striker came off the bench, with her second-half strike cancelling out Beth MacLeod’s opener on Sunday.
There were three changes from last weekend’s side who defeated St Johnstone, with Courtney McAvoy and Anna Dickov absent from the squad, and Ashley Elizabeth dropping to the bench. Shannon Todd, Sharon Hughes-Lee and Natasha Frew would take their places in the starting eleven.
Boroughmuir opened the scoring inside ten minutes, with Beth MacLeod getting in behind the Livingston backline and calmly firing beyond Molly Reeve. Following the goal, few chances would be created from either side, with possession being hard to keep.
The hosts almost doubled their lead before half time, with another ball over the top causing problems. Striker Cara Borthwick would beat Jess Murphy and the onrushing Molly Reeve to the ball, with her effort hitting the post before being cleared. Further opportunities would fall to MacLeod and Abigail Varghese, but the home side were unable to add to their advantage.
Livingston almost got back into the game inadvertently, with a Raewyn Murphy corner almost turned in by a Boroughmuir defender, but it was cleared off the goalline.
The second half started with the games most common action, with Thistle’s MacLeod getting in behind but her effort was thwarted by Reeve in goal. Reeve also made a big save in denying Borthwick at the near post as well as catching a headed effort from Maria Novoa-Torrente.
A penalty claim for Livingston was turned down, with Beth McKay being brought down inside the area. The referee didn’t see any issue with the challenge despite the protests from the winger and the Livingston bench.
Despite the Boroughmuir pressure, the next goal came to Livingston, with Ashley Elizabeth scoring with a neat finish from outside the box. Lucy Watt laid the striker off, with Elizabeth firing high beyond Beth Rennie to level things up.
The best chances from the final ten minutes would come to Boroughmuir, with Molly Reeve capping off a fine display with another couple of saves to keep things level. Both teams would have to settle for a point in the end, with Livingston remaining third in the SWPL 2.
