Boroughmuir Thistle WFC 3-3 Livingston WFC
A late equaliser from Lauren Evans rescued a point for Livingston as they came from behind to take a draw away from home against Boroughmuir Thistle. A double from Ashley Elizabeth had initially given Livingston the lead, with Evans equalising in the last minute to salvage a 3-3 draw.
Connor McCloskey stepped into the dugout following the departures of manager Mike Ross and assistant Jordan Forrester. McCloskey faced a tough team selection with several key players missing, including captain Natasha Frew, Beth McKay and Anna Dickov absent.
There seemed to be an extra skip in the step of the Livingston team as they pressed Boroughmuir, winning the ball high up the pitch. Livingston got their reward through Ashley Elizabeth, with the ball being recycled to the edge of the box where Elizabeth fired a shot into the opposite top corner to give the away side the lead.
Five minutes later, Boroughmuir levelled things up with an equally exceptional finish. From a similar angle, Katie McCabe fired high beyond Molly Reeve to level things up on the half hour mark.
It didn’t take long for Livingston to regain their advantage, though, with Ashley Elizabeth getting her second of the game and her third in two games. A ball over the top saw Elizabeth beat the offside trap and delightfully lift the ball over Beth Rennie to restore the Lionesses’ advantage.
Just before halftime, Livingston were denied a penalty as Hannah Davie was hauled down within the penalty box. A free kick was instead awarded but the referee failed to produce a red card as it was a last player situation, with the home side fortunate to not be punished in this instance.
The game was played in windy conditions that didn’t help Livingston in the second half, with Boroughmuir causing more issues with the wind in their favour. Molly Reeve was pulled into a number of strong saves to maintain Livi’s lead.
A double sucker punch ended up coming to Livingston in the 78th minute, as Boroughmuir went ahead with two goals in two minutes. Fiona Gibson tapped in at the back post to level things up, before the wind caught a Ria McCafferty corner kick which went directly in at the front post.
The game looked to be petering out but Livingston ended up salvaging a point in dramatic fashion. A long free kick by Jess Murphy broke to Lauren Evans who calmly fired beyond Rennie to rescue a point for Livingston in the dying moments.
Emily Arthur came close to restoring Boroughmuir’s late lead but her effor went across the goal in the game’s last chance.
Livingston moved a point closer to Kilmarnock as the Rugby Park side dropped points, with Livingston now facing a big game next Sunday as they welcome St Johnstone to Almondvale Stadium.
