Contract Extension for Andrew Shinnie
Livingston FC is delighted to announce that midfielder Andrew Shinnie has signed a one-year contract extension which will see him remain with the club until at least the end of the 2023/24 season.
The 33-year-old joined the Lions from Charlton Athletic at the start of the 2021/22 campaign and has gone on to feature 71 times for the club across last season and this.
Having started his career at Rangers, Andrew enjoyed two loan spells with Dundee before signing for Inverness CT in 2011. His form in the Highlands seen him make his senior Scotland debut in a 2-1 win over Luxembourg and make the PFA Scotland SPFL Team of the Year before signing a pre-contract with Birmingham City in the English Championship.
Andrew spent 5 years at St Andrews, with loan spells at Rotherham, Hibernian and Luton Town within that, eventually signing for the latter in 2018 where he would help the club to-back-to-back promotions from League 2 to the Championship. He would then join Charlton on loan in October 2020, before making the move permanent in February 2021.
After opting to depart the Addicks at the end of the 2020/21 season, the midfielder moved back north of the border to join the Lions in Summer 2021 and will extend his stay by a further year.
Manager David Martindale said: “I’m delighted to get Shinnie over the line. He has been a big player for us the last two seasons – one of the fittest guys in the squad and brings a lot to the group both on and off the park.
“It’s important that we do our best to keep players of this quality at the club as we know we’re going to lose a lot of experience & quality from the squad this season.
“It’s great news that he has chosen to sign on for another season and continue to play his football here at Livingston.”
Andrew Shinnie added: “I’m delighted to get signed up. I spoke with the manager over the last few weeks and we had a good conversation about things, looking ahead to next season and it was all fairly swift – we came to an agreement and I’m delighted.
“I love the group of players we have here. It’s a great bunch of boys and I love coming into training every day – I always have since I came here and that was a big factor in staying too.
“It’s a great club, great staff, great people all over it – I get on with every one. The media team, the canteen team, the office ladies – I get on with everyone so I’m really comfortable here and I enjoy being at the club.
“We’ll get a short break come the end of the season but I’ll be working really hard over the summer, come back for pre-season flying high and see where next season takes us.”
