Hamilton showed why they are top of the SWPL 2 with a 5-1 victory over Livingston in our first game of 2025. A second half strike from Erin Burns was only a consolation as the league leaders proved their worth.

The Lionesses faced their first game without manager Paul Greig, with Michael Wilson and Stewart Plenderleith taking the reigns. Making their debuts were new loan signings Ellie Osborne and Lily Park who had arrived from Hibernian.

It was the worst possible start for Livi as Hamilton opened the scoring within five minutes. A deep corner by Tobin caused issues with Rachel Pirie unable to stop the ball going into her own net.

Accies gained confidence from this early goal, forcing good saves out of Pirie. However, the lead was soon doubled as a long ball bounced off Natasha Frew and fell kindly to Muir who excellently placed the ball into the top right corner on the fifteen minute mark.

The home side looked threatening each time they went forward, making it three in twenty-five minutes. A long ball found Muir who expertly cut in and looped a shot over Pirie to gain her second goal of the game.

Muir almost got her hat trick but her effort went wide, whilst McIntosh missed a guilt edge chance from close range. The league’s top scorer Josi Giard added a fourth right on half time, firing in from close range after Summer Laird could get a glance on a defensive header.

The Lionesses came into the game more in the second half, but Accies still proved a great threat. Giard added her second of the game with a fantastic effort following a short corner to make it 5-0.

A breakaway saw Livingston earn a consolation goal as Erin Burns raced ahead of the Accies defence and emphatically fired home to pull one back.

A tough outing for the Lionesses who had gone over a month without a game. With some extra work in the legs, Livi will be looking to bounce back next weekend when we travel to face Gartcairn.
