Hearts preview – Sunday 15 March
It’s Sunday football this weekend as we welcome Daniel Stendel and his Heart of Midlothian side to The Tony Macaroni Arena.
This will be our third meeting of the season with the Jam Tarts, with two draws in the previous clashes – a 0-0 here in Livingston back in October followed up with a 1-1 at Tynecastle in December after a late equaliser from Steven MacLean cancelled out Marvin Bartley’s opener.
After a Scottish Cup win over Rangers at the end of February was followed up with an Edinburgh Derby win at Easter Road, it looked like the Edinburgh side had perhaps turned a corner but a draw with Motherwell at the weekend and defeat to St Mirren on Wednesday night sees Hearts rooted to the bottom of the Premiership table.
With three games to play before the split, Hearts find themselves 4 points behind 11th placed Hamilton and 6 points behind the definite safety of 10th place.
It hasn’t all been doom and gloom for the Edinburgh side though. The aforementioned win over Rangers at the end of last month has set up a tasty Scottish Cup semi-final tie with neighbours Hibernian in April. Having reached last year’s final and going ahead in the match before eventually succumbing to treble-treble winning, Celtic, Hearts will be looking to go one step better this year.
We’ll also see the return of former Lions captain Craig Halkett who missed out with injury the last time we played host to the Jambos. Having scored in our 5-0 win against Hearts last season, he’ll be looking for a different outcome this time round by helping his new team end their current 5 game winless run in the head-to head league record with Livingston.
For the Lions, we’ll be looking to make it a 10th consecutive home game without defeat – a run which is made up of 7 wins and 2 draws. With the race for the top 6 heating up, continuing that run this weekend could go a long way in securing our place there.
We also look forward to welcoming Roddy McKenzie back to Livingston for this one – a familiar face to both clubs. He’ll be our hospitality guest and conducting the 50/50 draw at half-time.
As well as Roddy, we’ll be saying a big hello to all of our ticket winners who’ll be in attendance – we hope to hear you roaring on the Lions!
Enjoy the game!
