Jon Guthrie departs for Northampton Town
Jon Guthrie has today sealed a move to English League 2 side Northampton Town.
The defender joined the Lions from Walsall in August 2019 and has gone on to make 76 appearances across two seasons, scoring 11 goals in the process. Of the 11 goals he scored, Jon leaves the club having never lost a game in which he scored – in fact, of the 10 games he scored in, we won 8 and drew 2.
His most memorable goal of the 11 coming with an exquisite lob over Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster as the Lions claimed a 2-2 draw against the then champions – the last game played at the Tony Macaroni Arena with spectators.
At the end of his debut season for the club, Jon scooped the Supporters Player of the Year award, the Livi Lions Supporters Club Player of the Year award and the Directors and Coaching Staff Player of the Year award.
Jon now heads for the East Midlands to join “The Cobblers” as the club looks to bounce back from relegation last season at the first attempt.
Manager David Martindale said: “I would just like to wish Jon all the very best going forward – he has been a fantastic player for us over the last two seasons.
“I know we were lucky to keep him at the club last season due to personal reasons and I thank him for that.
“We have come to a personal agreement with Jon to allow him to leave the club immediately. I’m sure I speak for everyone in thanking him for his contribution these last two seasons and wish him and his family nothing but success in the future.”
Good luck from everyone at Livingston FC, Jon!
