Josh Mullin joins Ayr United on loan
Midfielder Josh Mullin has today joined Championship side Ayr United on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 season.
The 29-year-old has amassed 123 appearances, scoring 15 times for the Lions across two spells since initially joining from Albion Rovers back in 2016.
Josh played a key role in our back-to-back promotions – helping us rise from League 1 to the Premiership, famously scoring the equaliser at Tannadice in that Premiership play-off semi-final first-leg away to Dundee United. Josh left to sign for Ross County, helping them to also progress from the Championship to the Premiership, lifting the Challenge Cup along the way before rejoining us in October 2020 and helping us to the League Cup final that same season.
After spending last season on-loan at Hamilton, Josh returned to the Lions in the summer and has featured 3 times this season, scoring in our 3-2 win at Albion Rovers in the Premier Sports Cup.
Manager David Martindale said: “It’s with a bit of regret that Josh is now out on loan again as I feel the move for both parties hasn’t worked out how we both hoped it would. Josh has been a very good player for the club and myself over the years he has been at the club.
“Last season, Josh was probably a bit premature in his decision to go out on loan but I also understood why. This season we both agreed that we would give it as much time as possible – but it hasn’t quite worked out the way we hoped in terms of game time for Josh. We are playing a slightly different system, or have been of late, and it’s left Josh with little game time.
“Josh is out of contract in the summer and has a young family and we both felt it was important that Josh went out and got as much game time as he could this season to give him the best possible chance for the following seasons.
“I want to go on record thanking Josh for everything he has done for Livingston Football Club and for being a top professional throughout both spells at the club. There have been plenty highs in his time at the club & for me, that’s how he will be remembered. We all wish him nothing but success in the future.”
Good luck, Josh!
