Kilmarnock WFC 1-1 Livingston WFC
Ashley Elizabeth’s 50th goal for Livingston earned the Lionesses a point away from home against Kilmarnock. The striker’s first-half effort was cancelled out by Killie’s Abby Robinson, with both teams gaining a point in a competitive fixture.
Livingston’s Rachel Walkingshaw returned to the matchday squad for the first time in over a year following a lengthy spell out with an ACL injury. Manager Mike Ross made three changes from the team that defeated Stirling University, with Lauren Evans, Emma McFadyen and Jen Dodds dropping out for Ashley Elizabeth, Raewyn Murphy and Sharon Hughes-Lee.
The Lionesses started off well, with great pressure winning the ball in the opposition’s half and creating several chances. Anna Dickov went closest to opening the scoring early on, hitting the side netting from a tight angle.
Kilmarnock will regret not taking the lead early on, with a great one-on-one opportunity presented to the hosts, but Livi goalkeeper Schenai Gamrot made a big save to keep things level.
Five minutes later, Livingston took the lead, with Ashely Elizabeth becoming the club’s first player to score 50 goals. Beth McKay did well to create an opening, with her shot saved into the path of Elizabeth who made no mistake from close range to give Livingston the lead.
Further chances fell to Shannon Mulligan and Anna Dickov, but Livi could not make their pressure count further. The second half saw Kilmarnock come out brightest, hitting the post through Dionne Brown before levelling things up.
Abby Robinson found plenty of time on the ball to fire a high effort beyond Schenai Gamrot to tie things up with twenty minutes to play. Killie got their tails up from this, with Brown going close again but not able to capitalise.
Livingston youth players Kodie Bell and Shola Henderson both made debut appearances for the senior team as the game came to a close. A point for each side is a fair reflection on the game, with a competitive fixture at Rugby Park ending 1-1. Livingston are next in action on the 14th of April, when they travel to face Boroughmuir Thistle.
