Livingston 2-0 Ayr United
Goals from Joel Nouble and an own goal from Ayr United after a stramash were enough to see Livingston through to the last 8 of Viaplay Cup as we will travel to Govan next to take on Rangers.
It was a slow start to the match with both teams playing slightly longer initially, but it was Livingston who broke the deadlock with the first real chance of the match. Jason Holt clipped a long ball into Kurtis Guthrie who flicked it on to Montano who burst into the box, cut it back and Joel Nouble passed it by Robbie Mutch in the visitor’s goal for 1-0.
The remainder of the first half was one for the purists as neither team really created anything of note other than a Stephen Kelly free kick from all of 30 yards which went around the wall but was easily collected by the visiting goalkeeper.
Half time Livingston 1-0 Ayr United
It was Stephen Kelly who had the next opportunity for Livingston in the second half as well after some neat play from Penrice who played it into Nouble who laid off Kelly but he couldn’t trouble Robbie Mutch and the ball went high and wide into the AAA Coaches stand.
Livingston had plenty of safe possession and broke through the lines at pace as Kelly slipped in Montano but he couldn’t really get a shot away and was thwarted again by Mutch. The Livingston number 3 wasn’t to be denied though as he was played into the box by Jason Holt, as he was bearing down on goal, the ball clipped of the Sean McGinty and into the net for 2-0 with 4 minutes on the clock.
Montano nearly doubled his tally after a cutback from Anderson but his effort was blocked on the line by Nick McAlister and it went out for a corner.
Ayr had a good chance as the ball fell to Paddy Reading but he couldn’t fire it past Shamal George who kept his 5th competitive clean sheet this season. The game petered out though and it is Livingston who progress into the quarter finals.
