Livingston FC sign Cristian Montaño on pre-contract agreement
Livingston FC is delighted to announce the pre-contract signing of Cristian Montaño from English League 2 side, Port Vale.
Full name, Cristian Alexis Montaño Castillo, the left-sided Columbian will join the Lions when his contract with the Valiants expires at the end of this month and will sign an initial 2-year deal, with the club having an option of a third year.
Born in Colombia, Cristian moved to London as a child and eventually joined the youth set-up at Premiership side, West Ham United where he signed his first professional deal in 2010 and was sent out on loan to gain some experience.
The winger had spells with Notts County, Swindon Town, Dagenham & Redbridge and then back to Notts County, before joining Oxford United.
During his short loan spells, he made 39 appearances, scoring 10 goals, which impressed Oldham Athletic, who signed him on a permanent deal from West Ham.
Cristian made 48 appearances during his spell at Boundary Park, scoring four goals in his two year spell then, after a brief stint with America de Cali in Colombia, Montano returned to England with Bristol Rovers in 2015.
He helped the club secure promotion from League Two to League One during his first year and was a key figure during his two years with the club, scoring three goals in 62 appearances before signing for Port Vale in 2017.
In his four seasons at the club, Cristian cemented his place as a first-team regular, making 138 appearances and scoring 17 times.
First Team Manager David Martindale said: “I’m delighted to get this one over the line. I was alerted to Cristian last season but for one reason or another, it never quite worked out. I kept my eye on him and have watched a lot of footage of him from this season and I’m now extremely happy to get him this time round.
“He is a very versatile player who can play predominantly as a left back or a left winger. He has played in the region of 250 games between League 1 and League 2 and we are getting a player that will be ready immediately which is a major attraction, whilst also bringing resilience and experience to the group.
“He has fantastic individual qualities and that, along with the robustness he has shown in his career, I can see Cristian playing a major part in our Premiership campaign next season.”
