Livingston U20 2-6 Stirling Albion U20
Albion’s Ross Cameron netted a hugely impressive 4 goals as the Binos came from 2-0 down to sink the young Lions on the FieldTurf this evening.
Initial pressure from the visitors was successfully absorbed by the Livi defence in the opening stages, but Lady Luck had a hand in the eventual Lions’ opener. Kyle Sampson broke free inside the box and crossed the ball into a ruck of legs, one of which belonged to Albion’s Alex Docherty, and his cruel final touch prodded it into his own net.
Twelve minutes later Dale Carrick doubled Livi’s advantage when he picked up Cammy White’s long pass before slotting home into the bottom corner past the outstretched arms of Albion keeper Ronan Fallens.
But shortly before the interval Albion pulled a goal back when a tremendous block by Gary Maley landed at the feet of Ross Cameron to drill home his first of the night.
Then with a minute of the half remaining came real drama after Craig Reid felled his opponent in the area to concede a penalty. Maley brilliantly blocked the spot kick but it broke for the visitors who raced back into the box. Dale Carrick then conceded another penalty with a clumsy challenge, and Maley was powerless to stop Cameron this time as he made no mistake from 12 yards.
Cameron’s tail was up, and minutes after the restart he put Stirling 3-2 up when he capitalised on Maley’s hesitation at the edge of the area for an easy tap-in to bag his hat-trick.
Carrick came agonisingly close to a leveller just after the hour mark, but his powerful drive pinged off the post. But the Binos extended their lead 10 minutes later when Connor McMullen rose to nod home goal number 4.
Cameron’s hugely impressive performance continued as he bagged his 2nd penalty of the night shortly after to put Albion 5-2 up.
And Ross Kavanagh completed the rout with 3 minutes remaining when he tapped home after Maley blocked a previous effort.
