Livingston WFC 1-0 Kilmarnock WFC
Courtney McAvoy’s second-half stunner earned Livingston three points to send them to second place in the SWPL 2. The midfielder’s third goal of the season made all the difference in a tough 1-0 win at home to Kilmarnock in harsh weather conditions.
The wind and rain created awful conditions for Sunday’s game, with the first half having few chances of note. Abby Robinson appeared to be somewhat of a creative spark in the opening forty-five, but Livi keeper Schenai Gamrot was only brought into action on one occasion.
Livingston had created an opening as Vhairi Munro held the ball up and played through Lucy Watt, but the winger’s effort went wayward in Livi’s only real opportunity in the first half.
The second half saw no change to the weather conditions as well as with chances being created. The game became a real slug between the two sides, both hoping to remain resolute which led to few opportunities.
Livingston took the lead, though, with a moment of brilliance from midfielder Courtney McAvoy. Substitute Ashley Elizabeth teed McAvoy up who fired a high shot past Ellie Currie for her third goal of the season, her second this term against Kilmarnock.
From here, Livingston had a lead to defend, which they did so resolutely. A change in shape helped this cause as Kilmarnock were unable to play through the Livingston defence, with Gamrot cleaning up any balls over the top.
Livi would look to counter on Killie who were searching for an equaliser, with Ashley Elizabeth being thwarted by the side netting to deny the Lionesses a second goal.
The home side would hold out in the end for an impressive clean sheet and a great three points that sees Mike Ross’ side move to second place in the SWPL 2 table.
