Livingston WFC 2-0 Boroughmuir Thistle WFC
Livingston returned to winning ways on Sunday, with a well earned 2-0 victory at home to Boroughmuir Thistle. A first half strike from Lauren Evans combined with Erin Burns’ tap in to seal a very good first three points of the 2024/25 season.
Livi reverted back to their usual 3-5-2 formation, with Ashley Elizabeth returning to the starting eleven up front.
The Lionesses took the lead very early in the game, with a long free kick causing Boroughmuir issues. The ball bobbled about before landing at the feet of Lauren Evans who instinctively fired home into the bottom corner to open the scoring. The forward now was three goals in two league games this season for the club.
Boroughmuir went close and forced a strong save from Rachel Pirie before the home side had a chance to double their lead from the penalty spot. Lauren Evans was fouled in the box before Erin Burns stepped up but hit the crossbar with her penalty kick.
Livingston had a lot of success by pressuring the opposition high up the park, causing the away side a host of issues but were unable to double their lead. The Lionesses showcased a much more energised performance than last week, keeping the ball in the opponent’s half and limiting any chances against them. Efforts from range were forced but well dealt with by Pirie.
The 87th minute would see the Lionesses deservedly double their lead, with it having to go to the dubious goal panel for who was awarded the goal. A Rachel Walkingshaw corner caused havoc, with the Thistle keeper palming the ball down into the path of Erin Burns who nodded home.
The two goals sealed a deserved win for the Lionesses who now face Ayr United next Sunday at the Home of the Set Fare Arena.
