Livingston WFC 2-0 Stirling University WFC
Second-half goals from Raewyn Murphy and Shannon Mulligan secured a 2-0 victory for Livingston against Stirling University. The home victory moves Livi to three points behind second-placed Kilmarnock, who we travel to next week.
Manager Mike Ross made three changes from last weekend’s loss to Queen’s Park, with Molly Reeve, Lucy Watt and Raewyn Murphy coming in for Schenai Gamrot, Erin Burns and Sharon Hughes-Lee.
Livingston started brightly and putting pressure on through a number of corners early on. The away side would also threaten from set pieces, with Gray forcing Livi keeper Molly Reeve into a few handy saves from headers.
Ashley Elizabeth would have a few chances in the first half, with a strong Anna Dickov effort being saved by Scarratt in the Stirling goal. Livi pushed for a goal but could not make the breakthrough before half time.
The Lionesses were forced into a first-half change, with Courtney McAvoy taking a knock and having to be replaced by Brogan Anderson.
The second half began with Reeve being forced into making another save from Gray, with the goalkeeper making a big save from point-blank range.
The next two best chances of the game would both fall to Raewyn Murphy, with the midfielder opening the scoring at the second time of asking. After missing a great chance from close range, Murphy peeled off to the back post and emphatically fired a volley into the bottom corner to give Livi the lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, it would 2-0 as Shannon Mulligan got her first goal of the season. An Ashley Elizabeth corner was met by the #88 who headed home to double the LIonesses’ lead and put us firmly in control.
Substitute Fiona Walker almost made it three inadvertently, getting in the way of a Jess Murphy shot which almost fooled the Stirling goalie who recovered well.
A comfortable second half showing saw Livi take the three points and back to winning ways. Livingston are in action again next weekend where we look to exact revenge on Kilmarnock as we travel to Rugby Park.
