Livingston WFC 3-1 Gartcairn WFC
A double from Erin Burns combined with Jess Murphy’s opener to secure a 3-1 victory for Livingston against Gartcairn in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2. The win keeps the Lionesses in third place ahead of the International break.
Manager Mike Ross kept the same starting XI from last weekend’s 5-0 victory over St Johnstone, with Livi looking to make it back to back league wins.
A nervy opening had Gartcairn pressing high, with not an awful lot of quality coming through. The deadlock would be broken in the 28th minute, though, from a set piece. A corner kick would bounce to the edge of the box where Natasha Frew fired the ball into a number of bodies, with Jess Murphy able to direct the ball into the back of the net.
The goal gave the home side more confidence as they started to knock the ball around more comfortably. Before half time, Courtney McAvoy would play through Erin Burns who expertly placed a driven shot in the bottom corner and double Livi’s lead.
The second half saw a quickfire goal for either side, with Gartcairn capitalising on a loose pass from Bryony Ross, with Megan Wands firing beyond Molly Reeve in the Livingston goal.
Immediately from the kick off, Raewyn Murphy would play a long direct pass through to the onrushing Erin Burns who made no mistake, getting her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
Substitute Lauren Evans had a good impact off the bench and will be disappointed to have not found the back of the net with two good chances.
It was to be only 3 in the end for Livingston as they picked up their first home win of the season. The International break sees Livi sit in a healthy third place with 10 points from 5.
