Livingston WFC 5-0 Falkirk WFC
An emphatic performance from the Lionesses as they put 5 past Falkirk at the Home of The Set Fare Arena. With strikes from Cairney, Whiteford, Moran and Daly the difference between the sides. Livingston had the lions share of the chances with the Falkirk goalkeeper making vital saves to deny more goals, most notably from the spot early into the 2nd half.
The first half started slowly with the sides trading blows throughout the course of the 45. Livingston struck first; unfortunately, a slightly early run led to the official raising the flag, keeping the sides even. A few more chances fell the way of the Lionesses, with a combination of goalkeeping and near misses ensuring the tie was level going into the break.
The second 45 started swiftly with a penalty going the way of Livingston within the first few minutes. However, the Falkirk goalkeeper got down low to her left to make the save. This started a flurry of Livingston possession and chances; it was only a matter of time before the first went in from Cairney, who picked the ball up just outside the box, skipped past a defender and fired into the near post top corner to give a well-deserved lead to the home side.
The floodgates really opened after that, with Whitehead finding home just a few minutes later, picking up the scraps after a save from the goalkeeper and making sure the chance didn’t go awry. A double change shortly after for the Lions with Strain and McCulloch replacing Whiteford and D.Brown.
Livingston really turned up the heat, adding a third to the tally through Moran, who is found by a cross-box pass from Daly and is able to calmly slot it past the diving goalkeeper. The net wasn’t empty for long, as fresh off her assist Daly adds a goal of her own to the scoresheet as her effort from the wide right area finds the far side of the Falkirk net.
3 more changes in the final 10 for Livingston, Whitson, Mason and Murray replacing Canavan, Rogers and an injured Strain.
Adding the icing on the second-half goal cake, Cairney grabs her second of the afternoon, finding the back of the net from outside the box again, lethal from range today.
An inspired second-half performance saw Livingston walk out 5 goals to the good in today’s Sky Sports Cup duel.
