Marcelo Pitaluga joins the Lions on loan from Liverpool
We’re delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga on a season-long-loan from English Premiership side Liverpool.
The Brazilian stopper, full name Marcelo de Araújo Pitaluga Filho, joined Liverpool FC from Fluminense in October 2020 and signed a new contract at Anfield as recently as January 2024.
Pitaluga, aged 17 when he arrived in Liverpool, had previously been named on the bench for the Brazilian club for two Serie A matches.
He was also in the Brazil squad that lifted the FIFA U17 World Cup on home soil in November 2019.
In 2021-22, Pitaluga was named on the bench for Liverpool’s first-team team on four occasions and played regularly at U23 level.
The now 21-year-old spent time on loan with Macclesfield FC during the 2022-23 campaign and also returned to his parent club to feature in training and for the U21s.
At the beginning of 2024, Pitaluga penned a new contract extension with Liverpool and headed to the Republic of Ireland for a spell on loan with St Patrick’s Athletic.
Marcelo will wear the number 14 shirt and goes straight into the squad, pending international clearance, for tomorrow’s trip to Kirkcaldy.
Welcome to West Lothian, Marcelo!
