Next Up – Motherwell
It’s a midweek trip to Fir Park for the Lions in a game where both sides will be looking to get their first point on the board after both starting the season 0 for 2.
The record books don’t make for good reading in terms of trips to Fir Park with our last win their coming back in October 2002 with a resounding 5-1 success. We did pick up a point on our first trip to Motherwell in the 2018/19 season with a fantastic Keaghan Jacobs free-kick securing a 1-1 draw.
With that said, the last clash between the sides seen the Lions collect all three points thanks to a second-half goal from Aaron Taylor-Sinclair at the Tony Macaroni Arena just back in February of this year.
It’s been back-to-back 1-0 defeats in the league for Motherwell in their opening games – going down to a Ross Stewart penalty in Dingwall and then former ‘Well man Mark Reynolds put his old side to the sword at the weekend, scoring the winner for top flight new boys Dundee United at Fir Park.
There’ll be three familiar faces on show in Motherwell colours for this one with Declan Gallagher (now Motherwell captain), Jordan White and Ricki Lamie all lining up for the hosts. Whilst Gallagher and Lamie have played the full 90 minutes in both games so far, White has had to settle for two appearances from the bench and could make his first start in this one.
For the Lions, a debut at the weekend for Matej Poplatnik means only today’s new signing Jason Holt, goalkeeper Max Stryjek and youngster Carlo Pignatiello remain still to make their competitive first-team debuts for the club.
As mentioned prior to the game with Hibs at the weekend, Scott Pittman remains one goal behind Raffa de Vita in terms of being top-scorer currently at the club so a goal against Motherwell would see him pull level with the Italian.
In the 8 meetings between the sides since we returned to the top flight, there have been 17 goals scored – with only 4 of those coming last season.
