Next Up – St Johnstone FC
We’re back in action at the Tony Macaroni Arena this weekend as we play host to St Johnstone for the first time this season.
This will be the first-time since 2013 that we’ll take on St Johnstone without Tommy Wright as manager after he was replaced by Callum Davidson in the summer. Callum had two spells at St Johnstone as a player, racking up over 100 appearances for the Saints across both stints but spent most of his playing days in England, playing for Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Preston North End amassing £3.5m in transfer fees too.
The Perth side sit 2 points ahead of us on 7 points at the minute, having beaten Kilmarnock and St Mirren and drawing with Dundee United on the opening day.
Liam Craig, Stevie May, David Wotherspoon & Michael O’Halloran are all tied on one goal each after the opening 8 games.
We’ll be up against two former Lions in Murray Davidson and Callum Booth with assistant manager Alec Cleland having also spent time with the club as youth manager and caretaker manager.
It was a win, a loss and a draw for the Lions against St Johnstone last season, with a 1-0 defeat at McDiarmid Park back in March actually being the last game we would play in the 2019/20 season prior to the season being cut short.
Jason Holt and Julien Serrano were the latest players to break their 2020/21 scoring duck, joining Lyndon Dykes, Scott Pittman, Alan Forrest and Jon Guthrie for the season.
Having been stripped of his “goal” against Hamilton, Scott Pittman remains tied with Raffa De Vita in the all-time goalscoring charts on 31 meaning his next strike will see him go clear at the top.
After Carlo Pignatiello came off the bench at Celtic Park last weekend, all players in the first-team squad have now featured competitively for the senior team.
Out on loan – Brian Schwake, Ross Stewart, Robbie Crawford, Salim Kouider-Aïssa & Jack Hamilton.
