Livingston fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of second placed Queen’s Park in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2. Goals from Ashley Elizabeth and Lucy Watt were cancelled out in the end as the Lionesses were punished by an 88th minute Queen’s Park winner.

Livingston were hoping to make it three wins on the bounce in the league, having last been in action on the 17th of September. Livi got off to a good start with September Player of the Month Erin Burns proving to be a threat early on. The wing back had an opportunity bravely saved and also hit the bar.

Queen’s Park also hit the bar before the break, with an Ellie Kane free kick bouncing off the frame. Schenai Gamrot would also make a crucial save, stopping a dangerous one on one effort.

Livingston wasted no time following the restart of the match, taking the lead within the first minute of the second half. Ashley Elizabeth received the ball outside the box and fired out of the reach of the Queen’s goalkeeper Lauren McGregor.

Queen’s Park pushed for an equaliser, forcing Gamrot into another big save, with Jess Murphy and Natasha Frew both making crucial last ditch interceptions as well.

The home side were soon ahead in a matter of minutes, taking the lead through captain Ellie Kane who curled an excellent strike into the top corner. Two minutes later, the home side made it two through Robin Gallagher.

Livingston showed good resiliency, however, bouncing back quickly and levelling things up. Substitute Lucy Watt found space inside the box and was able to fire low for her first goal of the season.

Queen’s Park would take the win, with an 88th minute winner from Abby Callaghan. A long ball over the top was met by the midfielder who was able to fire low and seal the three points for the home side.

Livingston will look to bounce back next week as we host Stirling University at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
