Rangers 4-0 Livingston
Livingston can feel unlucky leaving Ibrox after a 4-0 defeat to Rangers courtesy of a slick dismantling at the end of the game, which saw three goals in 12 minutes. Goals from Sam Lammers, Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell sunk Martindale’s team however it was a scoreline that flattered the hosts.
Rangers struck early in the first half, taking the lead on 10 minutes. Todd Cantwell would cut in from the right hand side, and his strike was parried to Lammers by Shamel George. The Dutchman made no mistake, dispatching the past the Livi number one.
The Lions gave a good account of themselves and for the first 20 minutes of the second half looked the more likely to score. Andrew Shinnie’s volley from the edge of the box was deflected and saved well by Jack Butland, before he would pinch the ball on the edge of the Ranger’s box and drive a low stinging shot across goal, again forcing Butland to save smartly.
A string of changes showed Ranger’s strength in depth, and they would finally break through to double their lead. Great forward movement from Danilo saw him beat Ayo Obileye to the ball at the back post to score with a free header.
It was three moments later as a sliced clearance from Michael Devlin fell to the feet of Danilo, who’s shot struck the post and off George straight to Sima, who made no mistake from close range.
The rout was finished on 90 minutes. A Devlin pass was intercepted in the Rangers half by Dowell, who passed to Rabbi Matonda. The Welshman drove for 30 yards before sliding the back to Dowell, with his first time strike flying into the roof of the net to succumb Livingston to their first defeat of the Premiership campaign.
