Dan’s the Man as MacKay joins the Lions!
Livingston FC is pleased to announce the signing of attacker Daniel MacKay on a season-long-loan from Hibernian.
The 22-year-old joins the Lions having spent last season on-loan at Championship side Inverness CT where he came up against us on two occasions – beating us in both domestic cup competitions, scoring in the 2-1 league cup group stage win for Caley in July 2022.
Dan went on to reach the Scottish Cup final, scoring in the 3-0 semi-final win over Falkirk and then scoring again in the final against Celtic as the Highland side put pressure on the eventual winners in the closing stages.
Having started out at Inverness, Dan joined Elgin City on loan in 2019 before signing for Hibernian in the Summer of 2021. He scored in the Europa Conference League on his second Hibs appearance, playing 6 times for the Easter Road side before spending the second-half of the 2021-22 campaign on-loan at Kilmarnock.
He returned to Hibs in 2022 before going back to Inverness on loan for the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign where he played a pivotal part in that fantastic Scottish Cup journey.
Dan was an unused substitute for Hibernian in their convincing Europa Conference League qualifying win over Inter Club d’Escaldes last night before heading to West Lothian to hook up with his new team mates this morning.
The Scotland U21 cap will wear the number 11 shirt and could feature in tomorrow’s squad for the 2023-24 cinch Premiership opener with Aberdeen.
Men’s first-team Manager David Martindale said: “I have followed Dan’s career since his Inverness days under John Robertson and he has gone on and played a lot of football for a lad that has not long turned 22.
“He’s very direct, has great pace and a very good right foot, scoring a variety of goals – there’s certainly a lot to like about him.
“Dan will come in and add to our options in the final third – being able to play off both the left and right and has also played through the middle when called upon on occasion.
“I would like to offer my thanks to Dan, his agent and Hibernian for their help in getting Dan along to Livingston FC.”
Welcome to the club, Dan!
