Livingston continued their brilliant record against the Dundee clubs this season as they came from behind to take all three points against Dundee United.
Tam Courts’ side made the best possible start to the match as they took the lead after just three minutes. Tony Watt’s ball across the face of goal was tapped in by Liam Smith as United went 1-0 up.
Livi came fighting back though, and Scott Pittman grabbed an equaliser midway through the first half. Some great work by Bruce Anderson laid the ball on a plate for the midfielder who smashed a volley beyond Benjamin Siegrist to level.
United had a great chance to regain the lead just before the break. Kieron Freeman’s cross found an unmarked Ilmari Niskanen at the far post, but the Fin’s header was tame and was collected easily by Max Stryjek.
Alan Forrest then came agonisingly close to putting the Lions in front. In typical, trademark Forrest fashion, the winger cut inside and created a half yard for himself, looking to bend one into the far corner. Siegrist appeared to be beaten, but the strike flew just wide of the post.
Forrest then teed up Pittman who was in search of a brace, but the midfielder put too much on the finish.
The United goalkeeper had kept his side in the game on multiple occasions in the second half as Livi pushed for
a winner. Firstly, Pittman was denied from close range after a teasing low cross from Anderson. Then, Alan Forrest was unlucky not to have burst the net but for the Swiss stopper who pulled off another impressive save.
However, the hosts did find that all important winning goal with seven minutes to play. Jason Holt’s perfectly weighted through ball found Nicky Devlin, whose cut back was turned into the back of the net by United’s Ryan Edwards as Livingston claimed all three points.
The victory takes Livingston to 4th in the table, and gets fans talking about the possibility of European football in West Lothian next season!
