Livingston WFC
Livingston FC is delighted to formally present Livingston WFC for the 2020 season.
The formation of Livingston Women’s FC for season 2020 has been formed in partnership with Blackburn United, and continues the excellent relationship that the clubs currently has at Senior Men’s level, and we hope this will filter down and strengthen the local communities.
This partnership can only help the girls’ game at a time when there is significant changes within the women’s structure. Aligning Blackburn with Livingston only strengthens the brands and allows the girls’ youth players with a clear path/vision to develop, eventually playing under the biggest senior club name within West Lothian.
Livingston Women will head up the pathway at Blackburn, with all the youth teams and Development Ladies remaining under the Blackburn badge, playing their games out of New Murrayfield Park, with Livingston Women wearing the Livingston kit and playing and training at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
The women’s team will continue to be Managed by Paul Jaconelli, with Paul being supported by Stevie Dickov (coach) & Nigel Thorpe (Secretary), there will be further additions added before the season resumes in February 2020.
The players, coaches & clubs are excited by this new venture and we are sure the existing partnership will grow not only in the girls game but also within the boys game.
Nigel Thorpe (Girls & Ladies Secretary Blackburn United) said “At these times of change within the women’s game we need to be proactive and not reactive, having this partnership with Livingston FC keeps us on the front foot and will provide the girls in the fantastic youth section at Blackburn United with a goal and a clear direction as they continue to develop, as without them there would be no Livingston WFC. I would like to thank my fellow committee members at Blackburn United for their understanding of the requirement of this partnership.”
Robert Wilson, Chairman of Livingston FC said “Let me begin with saying how excited everyone at Livingston FC are to be able to field a women’s football team in the SWF for the forthcoming season, February 2020. We were the only top-flight team that never had a women’s football team and I think we had to do our very best to make that happen, I’m proud that during my tenure we have a women’s team wearing the Livingston badge and the 1st team kit.
“Hopefully there will be a host of cross synergies that will allow the Livingston women’s team to grow and Livingston FC gain further exposure in the communities in and around West Lothian.
“I’m sure I speak for all when I say I am really excited about this progressive decision taken by the board at Livingston FC which will hopefully guarantee Livingston FC having a women’s team for the future generations of fans.”
Affiliation for season 2020 has been accepted by the SWF and the women will continue to participate within the performance arm of the game, within the Championship (last season it was the SWFL1 South).
Over the coming weeks we will be issuing further comments/statements from coaches and sponsors.
