Livingston WFC 0-1 Queen’s Park WFC
Livingston fell to a 1-0 defeat in their final game of 2023. A second-half strike from Abby Callaghan was the difference as visiting Queen’s Park took all three points from the Tony Macaroni Arena.
There were three changes to the side that defeated Gartcairn last weekend, with Raewyn Murphy, Gemma Mason and Lauren Evans dropping out for Jen Dodds, Courtney McAvoy and Ashley Elizabeth.
The wet weather conditions didn’t make the task of facing the league leaders any easier, with the Lionesses facing a lot of pressure from the Queen’s Park attack. Resolute defending from the backline as well as some luck saw Livingston keep the Spiders at bay.
Abby Callaghan would go closest in the first half, hitting the post before Jess Murphy was able to clear the ball away to safety. There would be few chances for Livingston in the first half, with the best opportunities coming from corner kicks that were ultimately dealt with.
The Lionesses would have a goal chopped off for offside, with Jen Dodds being adjudged to have crept forward too early.
Unfortunately for Livi, the visitors would soon go up the other end and finally make their pressure count. A through ball found Abby Callaghan who fired beyond Schenai Gamrot to open the scoring.
Queen’s would continue to have the best chances in the game, with Gamrot doing well to keep the league’s free-scorers at bay. Unfortunately, Livingston were unable to find their own way back into the game and suffered a 1-0 loss.
Next up is a Scottish Cup tie in the New Year, as we welcome Airdrie to the Tony Macaroni Arena on January 7th.
