Livingston WFC 1-0 Gartcairn WFC
A first half calamitous own goal by Gartcairn gave Livingston a narrow 1-0 victory in the SWPL 2. The error separated the two sides as the Lionesses moved within one point of second placed Kilmarnock.
The opening half an hour showed little threat within the game, even from the game’s only goal. A basic back pass to the Gartcairn goalkeeper saw an unfortunate mishit that somehow spun and ended up in the back of the net to give Livi the lead.
Going into half time, the visitors had the best opportunities as Rachel Pirie was forced into a couple of strong saves. However, despite not having a shot on goal, Livi went into half time one goal up.
A strong defensive showing from Livingston saw them keep Gartcairn at bay, with Pirie stepping in when needed to thwart any danger.
Livi’s best chance came from a late counter attack, with Anna Dickov rattling the bar whilst Erin Burns’ follow up went wide of the target.
Gartcairn looked to have snatched a last minute equaliser but Summer Laird was on hand to clear off the line and preserve the clean sheet.
A win in not the most glamorous circumstances, the three points are a coup as Livingston moved six points ahead of 4th and 5th place.
