Livingston WFC 2-4 Hamilton Academical WFC
A spirited late comeback by the Lionesses wasn’t enough to deny the Accies leaving West Lothian with three points.
t was a fast start for the home outfit as multiple attacks made their way to Kaitlyn Canavan within the first 10 minutes, one being narrowly missed wide right of the goal, and another the goalkeeper just had the edge in claiming the high ball.
The game settled down in the following 10 minutes, with the home side having the majority of possession and chances to go along with it.
When the Accies did find themselves further up the park, some great work from the two at the heart of the defence, Elise Macara and Emma Rogers, was quick to bring possession back to the hosts.
Kaitlyn Canavan found herself among the chances this half as she normally does. Just after the half-hour mark, she found herself bearing down on goal; however, the Accies goalie was just a step quicker and claimed the ball first.
Just a minute later, the deadlock was broken as a free kick just inside the Livingston half is floated toward the back post, where a Hamilton foot is found to direct the ball across the face of the goal, where it was smashed into the roof of the net to see the hosts behind after 35.
As the half was drawing to a close, Hamilton got another free kick in the same position, just the opposite side of the pitch. This was well dealt with by Alex Reid, who came with an emphatic punch to clear the danger.
The last minute of normal time in the first half saw the Accies lead double, as a scramble in the box, and a scream for a penalty, ended with the ball finding the Livingston goal from close range.
It would’ve been a disappointing end to the half if it wasn’t for Lila Sallis, who was found by Emily Moran on the edge of the box and then looped a fantastic shot over the Hamilton goalkeeper and into the far corner to halve the deficit right before the end of the half.
The away side took the lead into the half; however, with the late goal, the momentum lay with Livingston.
An early second-half free kick stung the palms of Alex Reid in goal, but nothing that couldn’t be handled and was gathered safely before finding the feet of Sophie Reid at fullback.
After 53 minutes, the Accies lead was back at 2 goals, with a strike from 30 yards smashing into the crossbar before rebounding off the back of Alex Reid and trickling into the back of the net, an unfortunate goal to lose.
The net hadn’t even stopped moving before another was added, with the ball given away in defence 2 minutes later and then being buried into the bottom right-hand corner of the Livingston goal.
From bad to worse in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
A triple change came for Livingston just after the hour mark, with Jen Dodds, Vivienne Strain, and Sophie Reid being replaced by Aby Pickard, Aimee Louise Murray and Aimee Moir.
In the 66th, a thunderous strike against the post from the away side left the Livingston goal-frame shaking, and just 5 minutes later, the crossbar took a hit too. The home team were living life on the edge in the second period of the game.
The final 2 changes for Livingston came with 12 minutes left in the half, Evie Swann and Lila Sallis made way for Natasha Frew and Ava Whitson.
The 84th saw Livingston put a second goal on the scoreboard as a free kick from Louise Mason is spilled by the Accies goalie, leaving Kaitlyn Canavan free to tap it home.
A venture up the park in the dying minutes for Emma Rogers saw her have a strike on goal, with a strong hand from the opposing goalie directing the shot out for a corner.
A resurgence from the Lionesses in the final 5 minutes came too little too late as the game looked said and done since the away side’s 4th found the net early on in the half.
