Raith Rovers match preview
Friendlies, Petrofac Cup, League Cup but it never really feels like the start of the season until today – the start of the league fixtures.
It’s a trip to Kirkcaldy to begin the 2015/16 league season as Raith Rovers play host to us this afternoon. Starks Park was a happy hunting ground last season as we knocked in 9 goals over the two fixtures, recording a 5-1 win last December then a 4-0 victory back in victory which gave us the fighting chance we required of staying in the Championship. Infact, with 8 wins and only 3 defeats in 12 trips to Starks Park, history is on our side going in to this one.
Of course, it’s a new season, a new start and effectively two new squads so a clean slate to be had. Rovers, like ourselves, progressed to the second round of both competitions after picking up victories away to Cowdenbeath and at home to Albion Rovers but have since been rocked by the midweek news that midfield starlet Lewis Vaughn may have ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the win over Albion. A lengthy spell on the sidelines looks imminent – a horrible way to the start the season and goes without saying that everyone at LFC wishes Lewis a speedy recovery.
We had our own injury problems ahead of last weekends extra-time win over Clyde with Darren Cole, Gary Glen, Myles Hippolyte, Moses Duckrell and Ryan Currie all missing out through injury but Mark Burchill hopes to have some of these bodies back available today.
Hopefully come 4.45pm today, the manager and his players will be returning to Livingston with an opening day three points on the board.
